Another stellar day on Anastasia Island. We went for the craft fair, but wound up at the pier, watching the birds steal the fishermen’s bait and this old pelican play with his admirers. When I got my chance, he (perhaps a she) toyed with me, my camera, and never blinked. On the contrary, he seemed to dare me to get closer, and I was pretty close, say within three feet. We walked to the end of the pier and got a pelican’s-eye view of our favorite beach. This is about 80 miles south of our bike outing a few weeks ago. The beaches are deeper and the sand is whiter on Anastasia Island, but it’s more crowded because of the shuttle bus from old town St. Augustine. Please click on these for best viewing.
