I received an email recently that had me wondering if I am inhaling too many paint fumes (I’m painting 40 cupboards in my kitchen both inside and out…that’s a lot of paint fumes.) It was from the editor of Belle Armoire, a Stampington & Company publication, who informed me that one of my cuff creations was selected for publication on January 1st. Oh my! To say that I’m excited is an understatement. I’ve been trying to get into this magazine for over a year.
I used to write for my local newspaper back in the 90’s. It was a weekly column dedicated to …wait for it… crafts! Imagine that. It was called Pastimes. I wrote and wrote and wrote, and never once felt that pang of writer’s block. There were too many craft shows to write about, and too many up-and-coming crafting celebrities to interview. I also wrote about my own crafts, and now and then drifted into some local news, though these were not published under my by-line. A paycheck was a paycheck I used to say, so I’d write about anything, like I’m doing now.
It’s been years since I’ve received remuneration for my words and that won’t change with this new milestone. I believe they simply send you a copy of the magazine. Instead I think of this as a great honor. Stampington & Company publishes dozens of magazines, and they indicate in their “calls for submissions” that thousands of items are received, and not all will be accepted. So I’m feeling pretty lucky and happy to have been chosen.
In fact, I can’t wait. -30-
